ESPN's basketball daily cheat sheet is your pregame destination before you lock in daily fantasy and betting decisions for that night's games. Here you'll find our top insights for the slate, including players to target for your daily fantasy rosters, along with game-by-game injury reports.

This first Saturday of the NBA regular season presents a mix of potential blowouts and battles. Five of Saturday's contests have large point spreads, while three have more competitive betting metrics.

Navigating big lines can prove challenging. Will the coaches abandon rotation patterns in the face of a blowout? A solid approach is to prioritize players whose value does not rely on a full fourth quarter; high-usage stars in competitive games, centers who can reach value through rebounds and blocks early, and starters with secure roles. Big lines still regularly surface from blowouts, as Stephen Curry has taught us over the past 15 years.

Potential blowouts don't automatically eliminate stars or create bench value. They simply add another variable: how much of a player's projection depends on a normal late-game workload. Compare that risk against matchup, injury news and the realistic likelihood the game stays close. The same idea applies to props: a large number is worth weighing, not treating as an automatic under.

Among the games with closer lines, the Miami Heat face the Charlotte Hornets in a game that feels important for Giannis Antetokounmpo and this new-look roster to prove competitive after a slow start. Conversely, Charlotte got drubbed last night by the Atlanta Hawks , setting up two division foes seeking redemption.

Speaking of the Hawks, they host the Houston Rockets in the marquee matchup of the day. These cross-conference teams boast deep rosters with gifted defenders, setting up an anticipated matchup for this initial weekend of the season.

With an eye toward uncovering compelling betting angles and fantasy decisions, let's take a look at the day ahead in the NBA.

The Heat simply need more creation and scoring to complement Giannis and Bam Adebayo . Mitchell, thus far, has assumed more deliberate distribution duties for Miami versus last year's track meet agenda. With a strong floor for assists and steals and growing upside as a 3-point threat, Mitchell makes the cut as a top guard to consider today. It also helps that Charlotte is running a patchworked point guard rotation.

After proving himself as a steady bucket throughout last spring, Marshall is the clear favorite to assume heavy usage with Cooper Flagg likely sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered last night against the Indiana Pacers . Marshall will get the requisite minutes, touches, and shot opportunities for a potentially big line. In deep formats, even former top pick Zaccharie Risacher surfaces as relevant given big minutes and strong defensive rates so far.

A player capable of sliding from the perimeter to being a bully on the block, Washington's versatility will prove important tonight sans Flagg. Upside for blocks and rebounds adds to a fun fantasy profile.

After years as a rotational big, it's easy to forget Smith is a former top-10 pick. He's becoming a trusted source of rebounds and efficient scoring thus far. Likely to earn minutes against some of the Wizards' questionable frontcourt depth, Smith is positioned as a darkhorse double-double candidate this evening.

De'Aaron Fox over 14.5 points (-107): It's not that we should expect some scoring eruption from Fox, rather he's seeing the same shot diet and workload that led to an All-Star bid and nearly 19 points per game last season. Just last night, Fox produced 19 points with impressive efficiency driving and getting to the stripe. He leads the Spurs in touches per game and total time on ball per game this season, further evidence he's in a good spot to produce out of pick-and-roll actions against Dallas.

Yaxel Lendeborg over 7.5 rebounds (+111): This unique older rookie is ready to produce right away, evidenced by 13 boards in his game against the Grizzlies last night. The Suns, meanwhile, have the league's lowest rebounding percentage by a wide margin at a paltry 37.4 percent. This means opponents are simply cleaning the glass against Phoenix. It helps that Lendeborg, based on minutes and role, sets up to see the most potential rebounds on the Warriors.

Tyler Herro over 2.5 made 3-pointers (-132): While this one is a bit pricey, the angles supporting Herro's shooting upside are quite sharp. For one, Herro has lofted 21 shots from deep through two games, helping support his robust 29 PPG. The 76ers have defensive upside when engaged, but are also still prone to communication lapses adapting to screens and close-outs as a new roster, setting up Herro with what should be a bevy of good looks both off the dribble and off the catch around a gauntlet of screens this evening. Volume is king when it comes to shooting props.
