Jeremy Lin was awesome last night

Listening to him last night during the Nuggets and Thunder game was truly a breath of fresh air.
He reminded me of how fans praised Tony Romo for his great commentary on NFL games especially when he first started. I like how Jeremy wasn't just passive and settled for the typical comments by saying the obvious things that commentators usually make that fans might already know, but he was able to point things out that happened away from the camera for the people watching at home who wouldn't normally get to be at these games in person or things that are interesting that isn't even happening on the court but still able to give an intrinsically detail oriented comment relating to basketball. For example, I forgot exactly what he said last night, but Lin mentioned how post players in the NBA are taught to (forgot what he said) and praised Aday Mara for picking up on it so early in his young career. Or another example during the game he pointed out something that the camera wasn't focused on in which a player (or players) on the Thunder did and attributed it to the culture that the Thunder has and that's one of the reasons why they're so good.
He keeps the viewers engaged for both casual and non-casuals with his wisdom and knowledge of the game and does it really well.
I hope ESPN finds a way to keep Lin on permanently for marquee games, he'd be an excellent addition.

Glad he was able to impart his wisdom on you.

Lol it's funny because I thought it was an interesting tidbit and actually remember it. Lin basically said centers are taught to crash the paint and post up as soon as they get a switch with a small guard put on them. Mara did it and drew a foul while posting.

Seal the guard under the basket.

That’s great but I’m pretty sure they teach that all the way down at the high school level. I believe that when a bigger player has a smaller player on them in the post, it’s referred to as a “mismatch” and it’s something the bigger player would want to take advantage of. That would be a great bit of knowledge for someone that has zero basketball knowledge. Any other casual basketball fan would know this already.

Yeah this cracked me up: ‘Jeremy Lin provided totally unique insight! For example: Actually, I forget! What a guy!’

The only flaw I'll say about Lin's commentary is sometimes he'll get a little bit long-winded when making a point, but I think that's an experience thing that he will clean up the more games he gets under his belt.

I enjoyed it but you could tell he was really nervous. He was having a bunch of "break me off a piece of that... football cream" moments.

100% he seemed super nervous. Not hating, but it was very obvious that he was new to this

Definitely, I think it’s just growing pains. He also doesn’t have the most engaging commentating voice/personality yet, especially while sitting next to ruocco. His actual insights were golden tho. Stan van gundy had the same problem earlier on but quickly became one of my favourite commentators in the league

As a pacers fan I’ve been training for years for this by listening to Quinn Buckner

If watching the on-court product isn't bad enough

Yeah I agree, I think that’s just a question of him getting more practice and refining his skills. He was probably also really nervous, and people can sometimes babble when they’re nervous.

Disagree. His suit was a major flaw. Actually it was an unmitigated disaster.
