In the wake of a report from The Athletic's Joe Vardon detailing a phishing test in the form of an email sent to various Madison Square Garden employees about receiving a 2025-26 NBA championship ring from the New York Knicks, the club is now planning to give out rings.
Per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post , the Knicks are planning to give 275 championship rings to members of the organization after acknowledging the "unfortunate mistake" of using the emails as a simulation of a phishing test.
"The company had previously sent out an email to its corporate team as a simulation of a phishing attack designed to strengthen our security against hackers," an MSG spokesman told Bondy. "MSG was recently hacked and extorted using an employee login and password obtained through a similar phishing attack. Using the rings as a lure to gain employees attention was an unfortunate mistake."
