It's true IMO. You can't do all the calculations you want when a shot goes up but if there's a maniac out there like Charles Barkley you're probably not going to get the ball.

In high school I played with a dude who was 5-11 but grabbed like 15 boards a game simply because he outworked everyone. He also had an amazing up and under move that worked on bigger defenders lol

As a freshman I made varsity because in the words of my coach ‘you’re like a damned rat, you’re willing to get down and dirty and you’ll scrap for everything’. I only played when we needed defense, rebounding and effort because I sure as shit wasn’t getting bottom of net

Up through JV I started every game while averaging maybe 2-3 points a game because I hustled and played solid defense and was usually in the right place and just didn’t fuck up

Then I realized my school had two seven footers and three dudes who played d1 and decided to try lacrosse lol
